PWD Upper Vaippar Basin Division

As per G.O. Ms. No.46 PWD/Dated 19.01.1996 the Government of Tamil Nadu ordered the formation of Upper Vaippar Basin Division at Rajapalayam.

The division was formed along with four Sub Divisions as follows.

• Upper Vaippar Basin Sub Division, Rajapalayam.
• Upper Vaippar Basin Sub Division, Srivilliputhur
• Upper Vaippar Basin Sub Division, Watrap.
• Upper Vaippar Basin Sub Division, Sankarankovil.

The Upper Vaippar Basin Sub Division, Sankarankovil is formed from 01.04.1996 and functioning at Sankarankovil as its Head quarters. Under this sub division four Sections are functioning.

• Upper Vaippar Basin Section, Sankarankoil
• Upper Vaippar Basin Section, Kuruvikulam
• Upper Vaippar Basin Section, Vasudevanallur
• Upper Vaippar Basin Section, Sivagiri

32 anicuts and 77 non system tanks and its supply channels are maintained by this sub division.Under this sub division out of 77 non system tanks. 24 non system tanks are in Deviyar sub basin, 11 non system tanks under Kalingalar Sub basin and 41 non system tanks under Nishabanadhi Sub basin and One tank under Vallampatti Odai are maintained.Under this division an ayacut of 9373.39 Hec. are benefitted in Sankarankovil, Sivagiri, Thiruvenkadam and Kadayanallur Taluks in Tirunelveli District.

The list of four important tanks and their hydraulic particulars are mentioned below,

1.Rasingaperi Tank :

The Rasingaperi tank is situated in rayagiri village in vasudevanallur block at Sivagiri Taluk of Tirunelveli District and it is under Vaippar Basin. The Unique ID Code No of the tank is TNVP-03-T0246.This Tank lies at 9.31488 N Latitude and 77.38626 E Longitude . This tank receives water through rasingaperi supply channel which has been open offtake from rasingaperi river. The total length of the supply channel is 4550m. The surplus water goes to thottichimalayar river through their kalingal (2 Nos) on left side and also goes to ullar river through their sand vent (3 Nos) on right side.

2.Kulasekaraperi Tank :

The Kulasekaraperi tank is situated in thirumalapuram village in vasudevanallur block at Sivagiri Taluk of Tirunelveli District and it is under Vaippar Basin. The Unique ID Code No of the tank is TNVP-02-T0272.This Tank lies at 9.26421 N Latitude and 77.38225 E Longitude . This tank receives water through kulasekaraperi supply channel which has been directly came from thalai anicut. The total length of the supply channel is 1750m. The surplus water goes to kooniyar river through their kalingal and sand vent (7 Nos) on right flank of the tank bund.

3.Vasudevanallur Big Tank :

The Vasudevanallur Big tank is situated in vasudevanallur village in vasudevanallur block at Sivagiri Taluk of Tirunelveli District and it is under Vaippar Basin. The Unique ID Code No of the tank is TNVP-02-T0287.This Tank lies at 9.23362 N Latitude and 77.38312 E Longitude . This tank receives water from kottamalaiyar river through pottakulam anicut. The total length of the supply channel is 1150m. The surplus water goes to kalingalar river through their sand vent (7 Nos) on left side and also goes to Nishabanathi river through their kalingal cum sand vent on right side of the tank bund.

4.Periyasadayaneri Tank :

The Periyasadayaneri tank is situated in T.N.Pudukudi village in vasudevanallur block at kadayanallur Taluk of Tirunelveli District and it is under Vaippar Basin. The Unique ID Code No of the tank is TNVP-01-T0317.This Tank lies at 9.18745 N Latitude and 77.41174 E Longitude . This tank receives water from vallamalaiyar river. The total length of the supply channel is 2300m. The surplus water goes to keela chinthamani tank through their sand vent (3 Nos) on left side and also goes to chinna sadayaneri tank through their kalingal cum sand vent on right side of the tank bund.
