TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT COOPERATIVE MILK PRODUCERS UNION LTD

About us:

  • Our union is derived from Madurai District Co-operative Milk Producers Union.
  • Milk is procured from the Village level societies twice a day. The milk cost payment is made on the basis of quality test which consists of Fat and Solids not fat content. At present Rs. 224/- is paid for 1 Kg. of total solids for cow milk.

HOW WE ARE WORKING:

Society:

A minimum of 25 or more individuals competent to contract under section 11 of the Indian Contract Act of 1872, owning milch animals, can form a Primary Dairy Cooperative Society, with one or more villages as its area of operation.

Procurement:

The union milk Procurement wing consists of both procurement and Animal Health Coverage. The procurement activity of the union is collecting milk from 480 societies. Through 23 milk collection- routes in both Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi district.

Dairy:

Processing Facility:

  • The milk received at the chilling centres are brought to the Dairy and along with the milk received at the Dairy, milk is processed for keeping the quality.
  • Types of milk such as standardised milk, High fat, High Protein milk, are being prepared to the requirements of the consumers.
    The surplus fat is converted into butter and into ghee. The whole milk surplus is dispatched to Metro Dairies and Feeder Balancing Dairies viz Madurai, Erode andTrivandrum.
  • The High Fat and High Protein milk are packed in 250 ml and 500 m.1 sachets. In the Dairy milk Beda, Ghee, Ice-cream, Flavoured milk, Rose Milk, Butter milk etc are being manufactured and marketed.
  • The processing capacity of Main Dairy, Kovilpatti CC, Valliyur CC, Sankarankoil CC and Sathankulam CC are 1,00,000; 10,000 ; 20,000 ; 50,000, 10,000 LPD respectively.
  • Types of milk such as standardized milk, High fat, High Protein milk, are being prepared to the requirements of the consumers.

The functions of a dairy cooperative society can be listed as follows:

  • Collection of milk twice a day from farmers.
  • Make regular payment to suppliers.
  • Dispatch the milk collected to Milk union.

And provide these to members:

  • Balanced cattle feed.
  • Fodder seeds of improved variety.
  • Services for animal health care.
  • Services for breeding of milch animals.
  • Patronage based portion of the surplus
  • Contribute to village development.

Chilling Center:

Milk is chilled by ice to a temperature of 4 0 C or below. It is an intermediate processing before heat treatment of milk. Milk chilling provides ease and ample time for transshipment to processing plant. Chilling of milk minimizes the souring and spoilage.

Bulk Milk Cooler

In dairy farming a bulk milk cooling tank is a large storage tank for cooling and holding milk at a cold temperature until it can be picked up by a milk hauler. The bulk milk cooling tank is an important piece of dairy farm equipment.
